April 23 – Discovering funky New Orleans
Atmore (Little River State Forest), AL to New Orleans, LA
The road to New Orleans is amazing. From the north, the drive took us across a 10km long bridge over water, slowly revealing the city’s skyline in the distance. Once on land, we could still see remains of the devastation hurricane Katrina caused back in 2005, including large broken trees and damaged homes. However, we were finally there: New Orleans!

Whilst on a two-and-a-half month holiday, you would expect to have plenty of time to timely capture most experiences in writing. Whilst travelling the USA however, the luxury of time (and WiFi!) does not present itself as often as we would like. Therefore going forward, we will merge several days of adventure into a single post. This one covers our experiences in Atlanta (Georgia) and the UFC event we attended.

When we opened the blinds in the morning, we were unpleasantly surprised to find it was raining… The type of drizzle ’too-heavy-to-walk-outside-without-an-umbrella’. Hoping for better weather further south, we head towards the entrance of Skyline Drive which would take us for 50 miles on twisty steep mountain roads straight through Shenandoah National Park. Though driving on the very quiet roads was fantastic (climbing up to 5000 feet!), all we could see off the cliffs was fog.

There is nothing more peaceful than waking up in the middle of a forest, hearing nothing but birds and wind blowing through the grass. We slept great in our first night in the RV. After breakfast (two freshly made eggs and ham sandwiches) and a quick shower we hit the road – onwards to Shenandoah National Park!

The second day was as hectic as the first day. After calling the RV rental station, a Swiss guy named Simon picked us up at the hotel. On the way to the RV rental station we talked about partying, racing and our road trip. We ended up talking about party busses with Dolby surround and stuff haha! Good fun, which resulted in us looking even more forward to our epic trip.

Hello America! Our flight to NY was quick and smooth. After immigration and collecting our luggage, we made our way to the free hotel shuttle at another part of New York Newark Airport. A short drive later, we checked in to the Wyndham Garden Hotel Newark Airport to find ourselves in a large twin room with big comfy queen beds… good start!
